LIRR
has three dogs in the top ten for their breeds in Flyball. Two
Bulldogs, Buster and Spanky #1 & 2 and Kane the Australian
Kelpie is #6
We
have more Papillon news. A new Papillon Keegan owned by a different
Teri Nolan, got his first flyball title FD (Flyball Dog) at the Jet Set
Tournament in December 2008. This was his first tournament.
These Papillons are doing a great job on the LIRR team. Riki and I are
very proud of both Jig and Keegan.
........and to continue with the Terry Nolan news, Keeper her Sheltie got
his FMX at this Tourney, 10,000 points, now that is not a shabby
accomplishment either
LIRR is the
brainchild of Valerie, Jessica and Amy Stier, our wonderful instructors for the
team. LIRR just celebrated our second year in Flyball competition, in June
of 2008. The folks on our team enjoy the camaraderie of the competitions,
working together with the dogs and the people. Of course, doing well, is
not a bad thing either, but even when we don't do well, we want to come home
with a feeling that we had a good time.
We train weekly
at
Doggie U,
a great indoor facility in Bay Shore NY, Thursday nights at Doggie U. Valerie,
Jessica and Amy conduct a beginner Flyball class at 7pm. Then we have team
practice and an advanced Flyball class also taught by Valerie and Jessica at
8pm. For more information on the classes and directions to the facility,

At the New England Trail Blazers May 2008 Tournament
in MA, the LIRR team that ran on this weekend did a great
job. Kane, Cassie, Zoe and Mysti, ran their hearts out. Everyone was
awesome.....
The team came in first place in our division. Cassie
had a personal best,
she ran under 5.0 seconds four times this
weekend. Three 4.9 runs and one 4.7
LIRR took
a ride over Thanksgiving weekend to Montreal Canada to a flyball tournament,
run by DogZworth's team, at the Olympic stadium. It was a long drive,
we had some entertaining things happen to the team over that weekend.
After dropping off the stuff at the
site Friday evening, we went to the hotel, two of our
members saw the rest of the team in the van pass us by as we
were checking in, and the van missed the turn for the
hotel. Shortly after that we got a call from the van crew
that they were experiencing electrical difficulties with the
van. They were stuck down the road in a parking lot. We
ferried them, their six dogs, four people and luggage in two
trips to the hotel. The next morning we made two trips to
the site to get all the team people and dogs there for the
second race of the day. We then lost another member as she
went to the parking lot and followed the van to the repair
place. The van was not fixed until Sunday, so we made
another two trips Saturday night to the hotel and two trips
on Sunday morning back to the site. Both Friday and
Saturday night our dinners came from fast food bags. Though
we did have a great sit down dinner on Sunday night……
Special
thanks to Amanda (who is Raven’s foster mom!!) from Canine
Mutiny for running her (that little funky eared Kelpie) for
us during a race, when we were short two humans who were on
van retrieval. Amanda did a great job with the little
psycho I did forget to tell her to just line her up in the
center of the lane and release her. So what, she missed a
few jumps, Raven had a fantastic time running with her other
Mom! Thank you so much Amanda. You always can run her, she
so loves to play with you.
Our dogs ran
very well for us even though we, the people, were all little
distracted and missing at times. Our Papillon, Jig also did
very well, even though he had a problem in the one race when
the spectators were cooing to him and he came over to them
because he thought they were calling him.
We all did
get home fine, the van made it home, people and dogs too.
Good thing we stayed overnight on Sunday night, we did not
have to drive in the unpleasant weather. When I got up to
walk the dogs in the morning on Monday, I was not impressed
with the sleet and freezing rain. Thank goodness I got to
go back to bed and when we did leave later that morning, the
weather was fine for traveling.
And Tracy,
thanks for letting Kane pose with Flirt for a photo. Those
Kelpies are very cute.
